Houston, TX – October 16, 2025 – The Texas Short-Term Rental Association (TXSTRA) has officially launched as a statewide trade association representing short-term rental owners, operators, and service providers across Texas. TXSTRA’s mission is to advocate for fair, consistent regulation, encourage lawful compliance, and educate hosts, guests, and neighbors on best practices.
TXSTRA aims to unify local alliances and stakeholders across Texas—from the Gulf Coast to the Hill Country, from major metros to small towns—so that responsible hosts can continue to operate while protecting property rights and preserving the economic benefits to Texas communities.
Short-term rentals are now an essential part of Texas’s tourism infrastructure, providing lodging capacity that supports both small towns and major cities. A 2023 study by Tourism Economics (an Oxford Economics company) found that short-term rentals and their guests generated $14.3 billion in business sales, supported over 83,000 jobs, and contributed $1.2 billion in state and local tax revenue across the state.
“Short-term rentals are fueling entrepreneurship in every corner of Texas—from family-run coastal cottages to professionally managed urban apartment brands,” said Sébastien Long, founding president of TXSTRA. “But without statewide consistency, operators face a confusing patchwork of local rules that threaten property rights and small-business livelihoods. TXSTRA exists to bring Texans together under one clear, responsible voice.”
The rapid growth of the sector has also spawned thousands of local small businesses in technology, cleaning, laundry, maintenance, design, and landscaping. As municipalities respond to this growth, however, fragmented ordinances have created challenges for both homeowners and professional operators—leading to ongoing litigation in several major markets.
With Texas hosting FIFA World Cup matches in 2026, the state’s tourism and accommodation capacity will be tested like never before. TXSTRA will play a key role in ensuring short-term rentals contribute safely, responsibly, and effectively to meeting that demand—supporting local economies while maintaining high standards for guests and neighbors alike.
The Texas Short-term Rental Association gives voice to a grassroots effort of unified stakeholders for consistent and fair regulation across Texas, nurturing new business as well as guiding statewide short-term rental impact into the future.
